What is your favorite season? I have an orange hydroflask, I love the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg, and I drink coffee through all hours of the day, and flannels are a closet staple of mine. So if you didn’t already guess: Fall is my FAVORITE season. And in the photo of me for this post, I’m wearing my favorite olive green-sleeved baseball tee. This post is the first of my fashion blogs! I’m excited to share my personal style with my readers.
Naturally the majority of my closet is comprised of clothing I can wear in the fall and winter months. Sweaters, flannels and cardigans are essentials! I recently took to my favorite stores Madewell, Express and Target to refresh my wardrobe and fuel my style for the next few months. Express recently had a 40% off sale, can you say dangerous? And when I walk into Madewell I can’t help but grab something cozy. To top it all off, I’m a wandering shopper in Target. I usually come home with a candle, a new coffee mug, something decorative for my apartment and a quirky phone case whenever I go there for milk! #Relatable right?
From Target I picked up a super soft long-sleeve tee in a mauve-y pink. I love this top because it is light enough to layer and can be dressed up or down for work, apple picking or a happy hour with friends. The top comes in multiple colors but I picked this one as a pop of color in the season overruled by deep burgundy, olive and navys as well as staple creams, blacks and grays. Plus it was $10. Can’t go wrong with that.
My other style picks from Target were a flannel and cardigan: for layering! And to wear alone. This is the number one reason I love fall. Layering your outfit turns it into something dressed up, or warmer and more simple or detailed depending on how you choose to combine items. A flannel gives you an outdoorsy feel as well as warmth when it gets a little chillier and cardigans are perfect for work or over a summer dress transitioned into colder months. I chose a classic printed, checkered red and black flannel and a lighter gray cardigan.
Onto Express! As I have gotten older and work has become a more relevant part of my life, rather than social events and school, work wear has become more important in my wardrobe. I tend to think, “Can I wear this to work AND for other events?” If the answer is no, I have to reconsider the purchase. This is a way I try to save money when I’m shopping as well.
Part of having a killer wardrobe at any time of year is finding jeans that fit you perfectly. Every pair of jeans you own should make you feel like a million bucks! For me, Express jeans are the best. They are reasonably priced and are usually BOGO 40% off at Express. Lucky for me when I picked up these two pairs in black and a medium wash, the whole store was 40% off. These jeans are perfect for a casual Friday in the office, dressed up with a button down.
I’m starting a new job on Monday, so I also wanted to pick up something to wear to make me feel special and ready to take on the day. I chose a printed wrap dress which I’ll be pairing with black tights and a pair of black heels. You really cannot go wrong with a wrap dress and it is easy to wear for multiple occasions. I like the floral print for fall because most people tend to associate florals with spring. (“Groundbreaking.” – Miranda Preistly.) I have to quote my favorite movie.
I have only been shopping at Madewell for about two months. For some reason it was the store I always passed in the mall and only window shopped at! I am so so glad I went in. I have to say, this store has the best sweaters. They market their jeans heavily but someone needs to recognize the cozy sweaters in all the right colors! I picked up three pieces from Madewell and I have to control myself so I don’t go back for more.
I have this long line cardigan in cream and online it is available in a few other colors. It was perfect with boyfriend jeans and a tee shirt and kept me nice and warm while I explored San Francisco with Dexter!
My two pull-over sweaters I picked out at Madewell were in those classic fall colors I mentioned earlier: burgundy and olive green! Both of these sweaters can be worn to work or casually and I am completely in love with how cozy they are. Sweater Weather by the NBHD anyone?
Hopefully this post gives you some inspiration for fall shopping and dressing! Let me know which pieces are your favorite in the comments and let me know if we might be #twinning in the near future.
